Country cycling past shifting sand dunes, ferries, and more

The area surrounding our B&B is a great starting point for both cycling enthusiasts and hikers. It is no coincidence that the Hardenberg region has been the setting for the Leontien Ladiesride for many years.

Country cycling past shifting sand dunes, ferries, and more

The natural surroundings of the Vechtdal with beautiful river views and the idyllic Reestdal with the De Reestlandhoeve vineyard just around the corner. The Hardenberg-Beerze loop is a 34 km long recommended route that takes you past the De Oldemeyer recreational lake, the Junne weir, and the village greens of Beerze and Rheeze. Rondje Rheeze is a few kilometers longer and, like the Hardenberg-Beerze route, is signposted with handy route signs. The 33 km Vechtdal Overijssel route starts nearby, at the Rheezerwold holiday park. You can easily follow the meandering Vecht river towards Ommen with the Follow the Vecht cycle route from Route.nl. Don’t forget to take a culinary cycling route and enjoy a traditional ice cream or delicious fresh asparagus from the Asparagus Farm along the way.

Via a bicycle ferry or across the German border
The 32 km ‘Hardenberg, Diffelen and Rheeze Loop’ (approx. 2 hours) is a highly varied cycle route taking you past woods, shifting sand dunes, weirs, a ferry and picturesque villages such as Brucht and Diffelen. Fancy a slightly longer cycle route and a quick trip across the border? The approximately 58 km long, highly varied Vechtdal-Germany route starts from HR Bokkepruik. For the real die-hards who also fancy a tasty stop-off, the Gramsbergen-Germany Loop is a must. This signposted cycle route, almost 52 km long, passes De Haandrik, a buffalo farm and the Mommeriete brewery, and ends in Hardenberg, where you can round off the day with a bite to eat or a drink on a lovely terrace. Do bear in mind that this will take up the whole day. A couple of top restaurant tips from the editorial team: Brasserie De Rheezerbelten and Amused Food & Wine.

Ferry timetables and bike hire
Please note: ferry services operate at different times throughout the seasons, or sometimes not at all. So do check the timetables before you set off. Most operate from 1 April to 1 November, but there may also be self-service ferries, which have their own charm. During your stay, standard bikes and e-bikes can be booked as an extra option; you can find more information here. Or ask the hostess, Astrid Fidder, about our attractive hire rates for a day or longer.
